Yinka Shonibare at YSP
On Saturday I performed at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for the Yinka Shonibare MBE exhibition. His work explores cultural identity using a wide range of media – most notably his brightly coloured ‘African’ textiles. I was given some fabric samples of his to accessorise my Edwardian Lady stilt costume, so I created this giant bow and flowers for my hat. Here I am stood in front of ‘Black Gold II.’ About 4 people commented on how I looked like Mary Poppins. I said, It’s funny you should say that…..
